About Us

The people behind the barn.

Owner, trainers, barn manager. One program, four horsewomen.
Kathy Kunsman
Owner & Head Trainer

Kathy Kunsman

Owner and head trainer Kathy Kunsman is a graduate of Virginia Tech, and she has been a part of the New Jersey horse world for over thirty years. Kathy has started many of her students in lead-line or short stirrup and brought them up to compete at the national level.

She prides herself on her ability to match her students with mounts appropriate to their individual skill levels and competitive in the show ring. Her goal is that each rider is confident enough to reach his or her full potential, and be both comfortable and successful.

Kathy also breeds a small string of warmblood and Thoroughbred sport horses, with a quiet hope of bringing more Thoroughbreds back into the hunter and jumper rings, where they once dominated.

Eleanor Kunsman
Trainer & Rider

Eleanor Kunsman

Eleanor Kunsman has established herself as a competitive rider and respected trainer across the hunter, jumper, and equitation disciplines. She earned a top-ten finish at the USEF Medal Finals and went on to compete as a member of the University of South Carolina NCAA Division I equestrian team. Her riding career includes multiple Grand Prix victories in Princeton and a top-four finish in an FEI 2* Grand Prix at the Hampton Classic Horse Show, along with a standout hunter score of 95 at the Winter Equestrian Festival.

In addition to her success in the ring, Eleanor has built a strong reputation for developing both horses and riders. She has trained numerous competitors to championships at premier shows including the Devon Horse Show, Capital Challenge, Pennsylvania National, Washington International, the Winter Equestrian Festival, World Equestrian Center, and the Hampton Classic. Her students have earned top ribbons at the USEF Pony Finals, Pony Medal Finals, USEF Medal Finals, and the Taylor Harris Finals, as well as consistent success at major competitions along the East Coast.

The Facility

The Ebb and Flow outdoor ring at Glen Eden at sunset

Glen Eden, located at the beautifully maintained Sandy Hill Equestrian Center, offers a premier riding experience with a spacious indoor arena for year-round training, and two outdoor rings for both schooling and at-home showing. Set across two hundred acres of rolling valley with classic white-fenced paddocks, the facility is conveniently accessible from US-206, I-287, I-78, and I-80.

The Ebb & Flow outdoor ring

Glen Eden features an Ebb and Flow outdoor ring, the first in New Jersey to use an advanced underground liner that manages moisture from below, creating a consistently balanced, low-dust surface in all conditions. The 5-inch Euro-Pro footing blends premium silica sand, specialty fibers, and high-quality conditioners to deliver reliable traction, stability, and cushioning that supports equine soundness.

Built for long-term durability, the system is engineered to maintain its integrity, with the ring laser graded at the start of each season.

Training

For horses, full training board keeps every horse in consistent, professional work: daily grooming, turnout, all routine vet and farrier coordination, and regular training rides that keep them fit, sound, and ready to perform.

For riders, our coaching carries through every stage of show preparation. We ride alongside our students at competitions of every kind, from local schooling shows and rated divisions to the biggest rings, all the way up to the grand prix.

At Glen Eden, both horse and rider are trained together, so the partnership built at home is the same one that walks into the show ring.

Showing

Rated & SchoolingFlorida Circuit

Where We Show

Rated and schooling shows, all over the East Coast.

Our riders compete at both rated and schooling shows up and down the East Coast, from local one-day outings in New Jersey to the biggest weeks on the calendar. We believe in meeting riders where they are: a first crossrails division and a junior hunter championship are equally important miles in the same long career.

With multiple trainers on staff, Glen Eden is often at two different shows on the same day, so riders never have to choose between staying close to home and chasing the points they need.

Winter Circuit

Half the barn in Florida. Half at home in New Jersey.

Every winter, half of the Glen Eden string ships south for the World Equestrian Center in Ocala, Florida, while the rest of the barn stays put in Chester. Both groups get the same thing: a full training operation with trainers, grooms, and coaching, whether you're warming up under the palms or hacking in our indoor.

It's the best of both worlds. Whether you want to show in Florida for the season, keep your lesson schedule at home, or split the difference, the program can be tailored to fit you and your horse's needs.

Frequently Asked

Common questions.

If yours isn't here, ask us. We love a good barn conversation.
01Do you offer trial lessons before signing up for a program?+
Yes. Every new rider starts with a single 45-minute evaluation lesson on one of our school horses. There is no commitment after that; if it's a fit on both sides, we'll talk about a regular slot and a longer-term plan.
02Is there a waitlist for boarding?+
Often, yes. We cap our barn at fifty horses and we keep the same boarders for years. Reach out and we'll let you know where you'd be on the list; sometimes it moves faster than you'd expect.
At what age can my child start riding lessons?+
We have started children as young as 3, depending on their interest and listening skills.
What type of equipment do I need?+
Long, tight-fitting pants (like leggings) and a boot with a small heel. Sneakers are not appropriate footwear. We have helmets that can be borrowed, but we recommend purchasing your own once you become more interested in the sport. There are many local tack stores that we can recommend.
Do I need to own a horse to take lessons?+
No. We have a variety of experienced horses and ponies ranging in skill level.
Can I tour the farm before committing?+
Absolutely, and we'd prefer it. Email us at glenedenhorsefarm@gmail.com to set up a time. We'll walk you through the barn, the rings, and the paddocks, and answer any question you have.
07What's included in full training board?+
Stall, hay, grain, daily turnout, blanketing, grooming, training rides, all routine farrier and vet coordination, daily handling, and unlimited coaching at home and at shows in our program. Shows, hauling, and supplements are billed separately.
08How do I sign up for summer camp?+
Sessions are small and tend to fill quickly with returning campers. Email us at glenedenhorsefarm@gmail.com to hold a spot or get on the wait list.
